The diversity of Le Marche

The Italian region of Le Marche is also known as ‘Italy’s best-kept secret’. Between the Adriatic coast and the Apennines lies this region not yet discovered by mass tourism. The immediate surroundings of Fossombrone are rich in history and culture. The ancient Roman city of Urbino was founded in the 3rd century BC and experienced a major cultural boom in the 15th century during the Renaissance. Urbino’s historic centre is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Thus, there are plenty of historical and cultural sights to discover. Behind Fossombrone, the Apennines begin and towards the sea about 20 km, you arrive at the coastal town of Fano with a beautiful old city centre and a nice beach to enjoy the Italian sun.

Le Stonghe Estate is the ideal base for visiting Le Marche. The surrounding area provides plenty of sights and offers huge opportunities for fun excursions. From sporty hiking & biking to a cultural visit to the Renaissance town of Urbino or the Roman coastal towns of Fano and Senigalia. Experience nature at its purest and visit nature park Furlo and the foothills of the Apennines. Want to let all the impressions of the past few days sink in? Then unwind on one of the beautiful beaches.

In Fano, thousands of years of history come alive around the magnificent city palaces and in the narrow streets of this ancient Roman port on the Adriatic coast.

In the vicinity of Le Stonghe Estate, you can visit the beautiful Renaissance fortified town of Urbino. The birthplace of Raffaello with a wonderful museum in the Palazzo Ducale.

Le Marche has much to offer the walker and cyclist. Directly from Le Stonghe, you can already take a beautiful 5-kilometre circular walk with beautiful views. There are also beautiful golf courses near Ancona and Perugia.

Nature and Surroundings

15 minutes from Le Stonghe you will find the Gola del Furlo nature reserve. You can go for lovely walks there, or find a place to enjoy fishing or a picnic by the water. In Cagli you will find waterfalls where you can sunbathe and swim in the cool water.

Le Marche is known for its pure cuisine using local produce. In Acqualagna, also called the truffle capital, there are truffle markets and in many restaurants in the area, dishes with truffles are part of the menu.
